Drink Up For Savings

Drink Up For Savings

by Mr. Moneysaver · Dec 4, 2011

Two of the biggest names in different sectors of the drinks industry have enjoyed a watershed week after both Foster’s and Starbucks made landmark announcements – and with Christmas approaching it’s an ideal time to secure some significant food and drink voucher codes, whether your tipple is alcoholic or a hot drink.

All change

It is all change for Australian giant Foster’s, which has given the go-ahead for a takeover by SABMiller worth £6.5billion. The deal now only needs the approval of the Victoria State Supreme Court after 99 per cent of shareholders voted in favour of the move following approval from the Australian Government.

The takeover, which is expected to be completed before the end of the year, was described as “historic” by Foster’s chairman David Crawford. Even though ownership will now change, the beer and brands will still be produced in Australia. It will also not affect the Foster’s lager brand in the UK, Ireland, and throughout Europe, which is owned by Heineken.

One drinks company that will be making changes in the UK, however, is US coffee giant Starbucks. It plans to expand further across the UK and Ireland, creating around 5,000 jobs over the next five years.

Under existing plans, Starbucks will increase its number of drive-through outlets from the current number of nine – to around 200. It will also introduce an additional 100 high street coffee shops. The announcement has already been welcomed by UK Prime Minister David Cameron who declared it will be: “a great boost to the British economy.”

Christmas savings

Of course Christmas is typically the time of year when most of us stock up on food and drink with the festivities in mind. Spending on hosting parties and entertaining can quickly mount up – so it’s vital to look for food and drink voucher codes to help cut back on costs.

Currently Moneysaver.ie has a host of food and drink voucher codes available. For example, you can secure five per cent off the entire site at Hampergifts.co.uk; save eight per cent on all orders at Chocolate Trading Company; and earn five per cent off all products at Virginia Hayward. There is also a voucher code for £5 off any orders at Vintage Wine Gifts. Even if these voucher codes aren’t to your taste, check the food and drink voucher codes section regularly for more offers from the likes of: the Guinness Webstore, Thorntons, Tesco Ireland, the Coca-Cola Store and the Whisky Exchange.
